Before you start doing some yoga positions, you need to educate yourself about yoga first especially if you have some medical conditions and you have not been doing a lot of physical activities lately. Do not attempt to do any strenuous activities if you are not really up to it yet. Although yoga is a non-competitive form of exercise and it is considered as safe for almost all types of people, there are things that you need to look into before you start doing some yoga positions.
Note that some types of yoga positions require utmost flexibility and there is a danger of pulling your muscles in the wrong direction and causing injury. Moreover, some yoga positions will require you to do a lot of bending and stretching which can be quite difficult especially if you are arthritic or if you have a history of hypertension.
Although movements can help heal arthritic joints, the process can be quite painful so you have to be careful not to overdo things. On the other hand, a combination of bending and stretching can cause your blood pressure to elevate to some degree so you need to go through these routine carefully.
To be one the safe side, it would be best not to perform these exercises on your own. Find a gym or fitness center that is offering yoga classes and enroll in these classes. Learning yoga positions with the help of a professional is a lot safer than trying to do these things on your own. Besides, attending classes will help you stick to your exercise routine. Just being with people who are into yoga is enough to encourage you to continue doing the exercises.
