People are practicing Yoga in millions all over the world, thanks to the media which is giving publicity to the benefits for general people.
However, Yoga is a science and it is very complex likewise every other science. The question is: ‘Are the poses safe and sound to be exercised by all people with different health conditions?’ “This is the question which needs thoroughly examining into the subject of itself, otherwise it could turn out to be more hazardous than good for you” said Subodh Gupta, the Yoga expert from India.
”While some of the postures can be taught easily without much complication and have different benefits, others might just be dangerous for persons with Hernia. For example, the exercises like Sun Salutation, Cobra pose, Locust pose, Bow pose, Standing Forward Bend and Kapalabhatiare few examples, these can be dangerous if somebody has Hernia. These exercises may make the Hernia illness worse” said Subodh Gupta, the famous Yoga expert.
More than 500,000 Hernia operations were performed in the United States last year and more than 2% of the British people suffer from Hernia, an important question is if all students are aware of their health condition and precautions before starting the training. Madonna, the well-known singer who practices Ashtanga regularly recently had an operation for hernia (Ashatanga is a system developed by Mysore based famous Indian guru Shri K Pattabhi Jois). In fact, the famous Ashtanga series which features jumping can be very hazardous for people who are having problem of Hernia” according to Subodh Gupta. Hernia starts building up when the outer parts of the abdominal wall weakens, bulge or actually rip. Among many reasons for hernia normally is straining due to: jumping, defecation, coughing, lifting heavy objects, etc.
‘Are precautions for different poses safely delivered by Yoga masters?’ ‘Are the practitioners listening to these precautions?’
“Well, this is a important point to consider by everybody who are teaching and learning and of course for the persons practicing yoga. The practitioners need to understand that their ignorance and lack of knowledge may lead them straight into an operation room” said Subodh Gupta.
The Yoga gurus from India and the teachers from the West has learnt the dangers of unless the poses are done properly, more and more people will get hurt without realizing.
