Yoga is an ancient form of self realization and enlightenment that has been practiced for several centuries. Many yoga devotees attest that it can relieve stress, soothe anxious nerves and help individuals cope with the pressures of daily life. There are several kinds of yoga and these do not focus mainly on movement and actions but also include meditation and thought processes as well as self control and enlightenment.

What Clothes to Wear

Since yoga involves some form of movement, the best yoga apparel would be something that you are comfortable in. Yoga apparel should be something that stretches with your body and goes with the flow of movement that a person does. Yoga apparel should not be clothes that need constant attention or restrictive clothing since this would defeat the purpose of meditation and self enlightenment.

Many experts also suggest that yoga apparel should be made from natural material. This is basically so that there would be less conflict and noise when there is movement. Static should also be avoided as his would lessen the person’s concentration. Loose and stretchy clothing are a big plus for doing yoga. It is also the idea that a very old and natural practice should be done in natural clothing to be better in touch with the nature of things and oneself.

Yoga is supposedly done barefoot but today some people use socks or soft shoes as part of their yoga apparel. Many do this a precaution since sometimes one might slip on the smooth floor or step on something sharp. Nowadays, most people’s feet are sensitive to hard surfaces and sharp angles which is why it is recommended to wear soft shoes when you practice yoga in a place which you are unsure of the surface. Soft shoes are better than ordinary shoes because these flex with the movement of the foot and are sometimes soft enough to feel like you are not wearing any shoes at all.

Yoga apparel does not have to be expensive or branded. As long as you are comfortable and fluidly follow the movements then there is no need to even look for special yoga apparel, you can wear shorts and a loose shirt if you want to. Of course, if you are practicing yoga at a decent gym or are attending classes for yoga, you might have to wear more than your old tatty shirt and a pair of comfortable shorts.
