If you’ve thought about becoming a yoga instructor you will realize that a large part of your job will be to guide students through the poses and postures while keeping close control of breathing. What you may not know is the type of potential a yoga instructor has to earn. There are a few factors that will determine how much you will earn should you decide to become an instructor. Where you live and your ability to sell yourself and experience to people will also determine your potential income. Teaching yoga to new practisers should be something of a passion to instructors. Having a passion for yoga will translate to enthusiastic students who will add the practice of this art to their daily lives. It is important to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for students to practice in. Having your instruction and studio ready for when the students arrive is important to show the students that your passion will help then grow in their art.
You may picture yourself teaching a group of students yoga as your main source of income, but it is important to note that some students like to have individual instruction as well. This addition to your career can be a great way to supplement your income. In order to make the most of these one-on-one training sessions you will need to have excellent organizational skills as well as the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and non-verbally, it also must be understood that being a yoga instructor could require you to work evening and weekends.
As a yoga instructor who finds a job working for someone else you will probably be required to be certified, if you are certified then at present the job opportunities are expected to be very good.
As a yoga instructor you are basically a business unto yourself. You therefore need to remember that there will be no dental plan or retirement fund waiting for you once you have found a job. If you feel like these are important things to have then you need to set up your own way of taking care of your future needs.
According to a recent Los Angeles Times article instructors earn around an hour and some studios will add – per student for any class with more then ten students. If you find a job working in a corporate setting then you could earn an hour or more.
Whether you decide to work for yourself or look for an employer within the yoga instucting business you should know that it is possible to have a good career as well as to inspire others to practise yoga. It can be a great career choice for those who have found that yoga has become not just something that has become part of their lives, but has become an important part of their lifestyle.
